Treating keratoconus is a special interest at our practice in Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex, where we have found that both Synergeyes Ultrahealth hybrid contact lenses and ICD mini-scleral contact lenses are the best way to provide superior vison and comfort for eyes with keratoconus and other types of irregular or very dry corneas.
In conditions such as keratoconus, pellucid marginal degeneration and other corneal irregularities, it is not possible to achieve a good standard of vision with spectacle lenses. Whilst vision is often good with standard rigid gas permeable lenses, they are often very uncomfortable due to the increased corneal sensitivity and dryness that normally accompanies these conditions.
Both the Synergeyes Ultrahealth hybrid and the ICD mini-scleral contact lenses are the latest generation of specialised contact lenses. By completely clearing the central cornea, the lenses create a new, smooth optical surface and superb, distortion free vision.
The Synergeyes Ultrahealth hybrid contact lens combines the superior vision offered by the central rigid gas permeable lens with the outstanding comfort of a soft skirt. The highly oxygen permeable silicone hydrogel soft skirt also serves to keep the rigid central portion of the lens centred and away from the cornea, thereby avoiding the discomfort and corneal damage that often results from wearing conventional RGP lenses to correct keratoconus and other conditions involving damaged and distorted corneas.

With the ICD mini-scleral contact lens, because the eye is constantly bathed in saline solution under the lens, the discomfort associated with other types of contact lenses due to drying and irritation is mostly eliminated.
Custom designed for your eyes and made from the highly oxygen permeable Paragon HDS® 100 material, the ICD mini-scleral contact lens is revolutionising the treatment of irregular corneal conditions.
